Some guidelines for new model makers to save them from wasting efforts.
First thing: it's best to learn to texture before you start making models. If you know how to texture already, you probably don't have to read this further. If you don't - just let me say that if you don't know how to unwrap and apply textures, chances are you also don't know how to make models properly.
Not so bad unwrapping tutorial can be found here: [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
But if you insist on not learning to texture, few more basic tips.
1. A model should be one continuous object. If you really have reasons to make it consist of several objects, think twice, and preferably find a way to make it as one.
2. No intersecting faces or overlapping objects! Intersections are bad, they produce ugly artifacts, z-fighting issues and many other problems including inability to texture a model.
3. Use BRIDGE to make holes.
4. The only allowed polygons are triangles, always triangulate all the faces when you feel your model is ready.
5. Save polygon count! The true polycount is number of faces after triangulation. A dagger which consists of more than 100 tris is a CRIME. Don't make too much details. A square inch sized polygon will almost never occupy more space on the screen in game than 4 pixels.
We want to be able to set battle size to more than 10 and still have an ok framerate, don't we?

To sum it up: Don't hurry, take your time, every vertex in your model should be there for a reason, learn all the tools available in Wings.
..and I would forget: learn unwrapping and texturing ;) start with basic primitives like cube, sphere, cylinder, and you'll eventually get it.
