PostWysłany: Wto 14:41, 22 Sie 2006    Temat postu: Personalized heroes, or how to keep the atmosphere

Ok, after 5 days of work, I've finished first (polish) part of heroes.
I was quite dissapointed by "flat" vanilla heroes, they've had two or three simple texts and one (stupid) quest. They were only anonymous man, another warriors.
So, what is my idea of heroes? I would see them as true companions, camrades, not only fill-the-hole warriors. Each should have its own biography, characteristic and skills. Important part of it would be quests- at least one to each, but preferabelly more. And I don't speak about simple "give me leather vest" quests, but complicated missions, which require a lot of work from you. Such heroes would really precious, true camrades, and leading them to battle or tavern brawl could give more satisfaction than ordinary soldiers- you could know advantages and disadvantages each of them. Of course, they could be useful in other, more "diplomatic" missions. So, there are my propositions:
NOTE:each of them should have quest (some, like Mysliwiecki, even more than one), but as fable is not ready, it is a matter of time.

Pan Krzysztof Sierakowski, herbu Gryf
Born in 1625, as third son of "starosta" of Szydłowiec, Hieronim Sierakowski. Father designed him for studies, but fighting was more interested for young nobleman. At 18, he ran away to Ukraine, where he served as hussar's pocztowy. At Ochmatów in 1644 only with two men he freed couple hundreds of Tartar prisoners, and killed their escort.
For this he was promoted to junior camrade in court banner of count Jeremi Wiśniowiecki. He fought in many battles, and made small fortune. Soon, as one of the count's trusted man, was send in escort of ambassador to Moldavia with letters from Wiśniowiecki, but a group of bandits attacked him, killed his servants and robbed him.
He is ambitious (want to be rotmaster of hussar banner), little arrogant and proud, but also very strong and sharp. He is only 23, but already experienced fighter.

Favourite weapon: typical hussar armanent- lance, sabre, koncerz. Best as heavy shock cavalryman.
Skills and abilities:expert at polearms, high strike, ironflesh, riding. Also good as one-handed weapons.

QUESTS:You meet him when he is disgraced by attack of bandits- he escorted the ambassador when bandits attacked. Ambassador was killed, and letters robbed. He will ask you to help to find bandits and retake letters, and in return he will join you. But this is not so simple- they were good armed, and probably work for somebody. But for who?

Favourite weapon: typical hussar armanent- lance, sabre, koncerz. Best as heavy shock cavalryman.
Skills and abilities:expert at polearms, high strike, ironflesh, riding. Also good as one-handed weapons.

Pan Janusz Babiłło, h. Dołęga
Born in 1608, in Olkienniki at Lithuania. From young he served in "pancerna" banner of count Zygmunt Karol Radziwiłł, in 1640 he became rotmaister. He fought with hetman Koniecpolski against Turks, Muscovy and Tartars. Unfortunatelly, after return, his benefactor, Zygmunt Karol, died, and new count, Bolesław Radziwiłł, forced him to dismiss his banner (because,as he said:"That man is too boring for me.")
He backed to Ukraine, hoping to regain his fortune.
He is typical lithuanian "bear", bred at dense Lithuanian forest- rather gloomy and cheerless, speaking with characteristic accent. But he is very good soldier, strong and widely trained. He has quite universal abilities, but should fight as medium cavalryman.

QUESTS:

Favourite weapon: rohatyna (lithuanian spear), sabre, firearms, bow, shield.
S&A: widely, but not at expert level:good riding, strike, ironflesh, horse archery, atheltic and strength, medium bow. Good at one-handed weapons and polearms, medium at archery and firearms.

Semen Petryłowicz
Born in 1598 in village Dobrycznica in Kijov district as son of wealth farmer. He was designed to farming, but in 1624 his village was burned and plundered, and his family slaughtered by Tartars. He became prisoner, and as such he worked in salt mines in Crimean. Then was sold and served some Tartar nobleman. After few years czambuł of his master was suddenly destroyed by polish troops, and Petryłowicz was freed. He swore revenge for Tartars, and now he fight with them over twenty years- firstly as common soldier, then- as wachmistrz. Because of his paesant blood he cannot be a rotmeister, but thanks to its experience (and age) he is respected even by noble camrades. He is loyal and thrifty soldier, especially priced by his medic skills.

F. weapons:fire weapons, berdish, sabre. He fought as dragoon, but he can also command the infantry, giving terrible damages from berdish, old russian weapon.
S&A:very high surgeon, wound treatment, equipment, high riding, leadership, prisoner managment. Good at firearms, very good in double-handed weapons.

QUESTS:Rumors say that there will be great war on the spring. Cossacks are gathering in the Sicz, and even registered Cossaks from regular regiments are often missing. Petryłowicz is a wachmistrz of "sotnia" in Perejesław regiment, but his unit is incomplite- more and more peoples are missing. Old wachmistrz suppose that they are going to join rebels. He will ask you to investigate that- who admonish his soldiers to run away? You must find that person and prevent desertion of whole unit.

Althrough he just passe 20, he is alreadyfamous as incedible efficent archer- he can shot a flying bird in the neck. Beside that he is very strong and hardy. In future, after adventures with our company, he will start quarrel with his neighbour, Dydiuk, and finish it...well, read "Pan Wołodyjowski"! Very Happy

F.weapons: all bows, also melee weapon- sabre or other, shield. Best as horse or foot archer, also good in melee.

Fortune smiled to him when he gambled old horse and mustered to Lisowczycy. He state that fought with hetman Chodkiewicz at Chocim in 1621, but it is impossible, he is too young. There are also doubts if he really, as he claims, served under Emperor, saw all western countries, then fought in Russia and reached Ural. He has two sentences of infamy (miscarriage of justice, as he says) and three banitions (he is proud of them). He is typical free-soldier - arrogant, sometimes cruel but cheerful, loving drinking and good fights (no matter, in tavern or in battle). But he is also courageous warrior, famous from his "dance with the Tartars" (method of catching tartar czambuls).

You need to uchain him, defeat the guards and flee. Myśliwiec will join to you party. But such restless person will bring troubles soon. After some time, your party will meet strong group of armed men, with powerful and famous brawler Samuel Łaszcz on the head. They will stop you and demand to give Myśliwiec to them in chain. It soon turn out that he seduced daughter of Łaszcz, Anna, and father want to force him to marriage- young lady cannot breed baby without husband, after all. You can give him what he wants, fought with him (but he will never stop to search you) or... find another issue.

It is "With Fire and Sword", so i think you should add some heroes from trilogy, for example Michał Wołodyjowski, Jan Skrzetuski, Zagłoba, and Longinus Podbipięta. Of course you make this list and it's your choice.

Well, I thought about that. But in my opinion adding Wolodyjowski or other important heroes DIRECTLY to the party could injure the atmosphere. They've had their own histories and were present in other places, described in the book. It is hard to imaginate how for example Wolodyjowski could be present near count Wisniowiecki and, in the same time, traveling with hero to Moldavia. If they would be cut off from their own business (described in the book) they will soon change to another "typical"party heroes, not very much exciting.
But don't worry, heroes like Wolodyjowski and Podbipieta WILL BE in the game, but not as regular party members. You will meet them, they sometimes gave you some quests, maybe even join you in special tasks for a moment. Wink Thanks to this, meeting them should be really exciting, they won't be "moped up".
ps. I made an exception to Muszalski- he is one of the heroes in "Pan Wolodyjowski". Smile

Well, I'm planning heroes for Cossacks and Tartars now. From books there is only Muszalski now, the rest was done by me (based on historic heraldry, names etc.) Smile . I'm not planning more heroes from books right now, but maybe later? But it needs time (searching in the books), and I have exam for two weeks, so I'll be slow down.
First I need to post cossacks and Tartars.
Send your own heroes, the more ideas the better! Smile

Smile
